Alison and Joe Bakey opened up their first Right at Home franchise in Media Pennsylvania January 2004. Joe had a business, sales and marketing background and Alison had worked in acute care and rehabilitation settings. Both had aging parents with healthcare issues that led to them to move back home to New Jersey from Maryland in 2003. Combining knowledge from their professional and personal backgrounds enabled them to begin the task of building a non-medical home care agency that could provide services to all of Delaware County, Pa.
In early 2005 Right at Home became a official provider of homecare services to the Delaware County Office of Services for the Aging (COSA). This now afforded RAH the opportunity to help those senior citizens who meet medical assistance financial requirements,
who may not have otherwise been able to afford their services. Through all RAH’s marketing efforts in acute care and rehabilitation facilities, it became apparent to Joe that there were a large number of families that were having problems managing the care of their aging family member’s healthcare needs, finances, etc.
So, in March 2006, he founded an organization called Child of Aging Parents (COAP). The group topics include elder-law, reverse mortgage qualifications, rehabilitation /Medicare/Medicaid issues, home care agency services, and financial planning .They meet monthly and invite anyone from the Delaware County area community to come and receive advise or referrals for their particular family member’s needs.
In order to be involved in the regulation and administering of homecare services, Joe started a local chapter of the National Private
Duty Association (NPDA). His involvement is critical as Pennsylvania develops licensure regulation, caregiver management, and
service delivery.
The Bakey’s opened their second office in New Castle County Delaware in January 2007. Like the Media Pa office, it is steadily
growing and providing services to the local community.
